Sandy Lodge Golf Club was born out of the dream of one determined businessman for a dry and pleasant game of golf all year round. James Frances Markes, a mining engineer and successful gold prospector, frustrated with playing in muddy, damp conditions at Neasden Golf Club in North London, set about searching for more suitable land to enjoy his favourite game of golf throughout the year.
From meticulous construction using horse, cart and wheelbarrow, to the grand opening of Sandy Lodge Golf Club on 16th July 1910 marked by a thrilling exhibition match between the renowned Harry Vardon and James Braid, Sandy Lodge Golf Club has been on an exciting journey, our rich and compelling history is part of the fabric of who we are today and underpins our drive to further our traditions.
